Educator and school counselor, Yurong Zhang was invited to attend the “Investment and Partnerships for Global Goals” at Unite Nations Headquarters in New York to discuss the world’s education and gender inequality in education. She has been working as a school and career counselor for girls’ education and gender equality since 2012. Ms. Zhang has mentored girls in different ages and different countries for 7 years to help them to get better education resources and guide them for advanced education.

The conference goal is to produce actionable solutions to important global issues, anchored around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Topics for discussion include impact investment, technology, women’s economic and political power, peace, urbanization, education and inclusion. The conference convenes educators, business leaders, policy makers, global entrepreneurs, technology influencers, civil society leaders, visionaries, decision makers and investors from family offices worldwide.

Ms. Zhang says there is a fact that “one hundred and thirty million girls are not in education. Fifteen million are expected to never enroll at all.”

Over the years, Ms. Zhang aims to provide millions of girls across the word with safe, quality, gender-transformative education so they may find their voices and learn to lead.

Ms. Zhang emphasizes educating girls is so important that

Education gives girls the potential to earn better wages, raise healthier and more educated children, and have a voice in her community.

An extra year of primary school education boosts girls’ eventual wages by 10–20 per cent. An extra year of secondary school adds 15–25 per cent.

Education is associated with increased contraception use, less underage premarital sex and lower HIV/AIDS risks.

Women invest 90 per cent of their income in their households, as opposed to men’s 30-40 per cent, leading to healthier, better educated children and families.

Women’s labor force participation can lead to reduced poverty, greater political participation, increased agency and assertion of their rights at the household and community levels.
